Fear God and Nothing Else

-Steven F. Hotze, M.D.

The Bible makes it very clear that we must fear God and no one else, and nothing else. David displayed his fear of God and his fearlessness toward man when he fought Goliath in the valley of Elah.

The fear of God is a heart-wrenching recognition that God is the Creator and Sovereign Ruler of the universe, Whose dominion endures eternally, and Whose law-word is final. God is the King of glory. He is the Lord of hosts.

A true fear of the Lord inevitably produces a compelling desire to submit under His authority, to be obedient to His word, and to do His will.

“The fear of the Lord is to hate evil, pride, arrogance and the evil way and the perverted mouth. These things I hate.” (Proverbs 8:13)

To fear God is to hate evil and by extension to oppose and defeat evil in our own lives and in society.

God wants to drill into our hearts our need to fear Him. The words “fear God,” “the fear of God,” “fear of God,” and “fear the Lord” are mentioned 490 times in the Bible.

Results of Fearing God

The Bible promises great results associated with the fear of God. “In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children will have refuge.” (Proverbs 14:26)

“The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, so that one may avoid the snares of death.” (Proverbs 14:27)

“By the fear of the Lord one keeps away from evil.” (Proverbs 16:6)

“The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor and life.“ (Proverbs 22:4)

“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear God, and rescues them.” (Psalm 34:7)

“The Lord favors those who fear Him.” (Psalm 147:11a)

“Who is the person who fears the Lord? He will instruct him in the way he should choose.

His soul will dwell in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land. The counsel of the Lord is for those who fear Him, and He will make them know His covenant.”(Psalm 25:12-14)

“The eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, to deliver their soul from death.” (Psalm 33:18-19)

God’s Provision Is Jesus Christ

God has made living in obedience to His will and submitting under His authority possible through His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who redeemed us from our sins and causes us to be born again when we place our faith in Christ. “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:31)

“By grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift to God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8- 10)

Fear No Man And Nothing Else

While the Bible encourages us to fear God, it admonishes us to fear no one else and to fear nothing else.

“Fear not” and “do not be afraid” appear in the Bible 366 times. It is the contrasting principle to fearing God, and God also wants this principle to be instilled in our hearts.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. Therefore, we will not fear.“ (Psalm 46:1-2a)

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” (Psalm 34:4)

“The Lord is my light and salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life, whom shall I dread? When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though an army encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war arise against me in spite of this I shall be confident.” (Psalm 27:1-3)

Solution To Worldly Fear

What is the solution to fear? An absolute trust in God and in His divine, providential protection. This can be developed by searching the Bible for verses about fearing and trusting God alone, and fearing and trusting no one else or anything else. Then write out these verses on an index card, review them, and memorize and meditate upon these Bible verses. You will then be able to say, “I have more insight than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. (Psalm 119:99)

“A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not approach you. You will only look on with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. For you have made the Lord your refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place.” (Psalm 91:7-9)

Fear of Covid-19

I am not going to tell you that many Christian ministers and their church members have lived in fear since the Covid plandemic was foisted upon the world in March of 2020, and that they embraced the lie, and surrendered and submitted, without hesitation, to the tyrannical rule of tin-pot dictators and exchanged their God-given liberties for a delusion of safety. You will just have to decide that for yourself.

“For the waywardness of the naive shall kill them and the complacency of fools shall destroy them, but he who listens to me shall live securely and shall be at ease from the dread of evil.” (Proverbs 1:32–33)

Many ministers and Christians placed their faith in mortal men, government health bureaucrats and elected officials who, as always, failed them. They closed their churches, wore cultish face masks, locked down their schools, social distanced and quarantined. Then they took the experimental genetic modification injection that hijacked their cells, causing them to produce the dangerous spike protein bioweapon.

“Do not trust in princes, in mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God.” (Psalm 146:3-5)

“Like a trampled spring and a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.” (Proverbs 25:26) The Bible is very clear in its instruction to us that we must trust God with our whole heart, mind and soul, rather than trusting anyone else or anything else in place of God.

Christians and their leaders should have placed their faith in God and made Him their refuge. They should have taken charge of their health, embraced a healthy eating lifestyle, obtained an ideal body weight and disciplined themselves to strengthen their God-given immune systems.

If they had contracted a Covid infection, then they could have been safely treated with Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin. Then they could have claimed these promises from God, “No evil will befall you, nor will any plague enter your tent. For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.” (Psalm 91:10-11)

By proving themselves fearful, faithless and feckless, many Christians have “sown to the wind, and they are reaping the whirlwind.” (Hosea 8:7)

Follow David’s Example

Christian ministers who caved into Lord Fauci and political tyrants should publicly repent and ask God to give them the fighting spirit of David who, when as a young lad, challenged and defeated Goliath. The story of David’s heroic deed can be found in 1 Samuel 17.

Goliath and his Philistine army were on one mountain and King Saul and his Israelite army were on an opposite mountain with the valley of Elah between them.

Goliath came down and stood before the Israelite army and shouted, “‘I defy the ranks of Israel this day; give me a man that we may fight together.’ When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.” (1 Samuel 17:10-11)

Goliath did this every morning and evening for forty days.

David was the youngest of Jesse’s 8 sons. The three oldest were in Saul’s army. David periodically brought supplies to his brothers. On this occasion when David arrived at the camp, the two armies were drawn up in battle array. David left his baggage and “ran to the battle line.” (1 Sam. 17:22) We need Christian leaders who will run to the battle lines and fight the Communist influenced, political tyrants and their political allies.

“The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.“ (Proverbs 28:1)

Goliath came out and once again challenged Saul and his army. The Israelites fled from him with great fear. When David heard this he said, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should taunt the armies of the living God?” (1 Sam. 17:22)

King Saul heard of David’s words and called for him. David told Saul, “your servant will go and fight with this Philistine. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has taunted the armies of the living God.” (1 Sam. 17:32,36)

Goliath was a giant of a man, standing 9 feet, 6 inches tall. David was just a young lad. The odds were all in favor of Goliath tearing David to pieces, but David was prepared to fight Goliath, both physically and spiritually.

David Defeats Goliath

When David came out on the field to fight Goliath, Goliath disdained him and cursed him. David responded to Goliath saying, “you come to me with a sword, a spear and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I will strike you down and cut off your head, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that they may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear, for the battle is the Lord’s. (1 Sam. 17:45-47)

Then David pulled a smooth stone from his bag and placed it in his slingshot and slung it at Goliath. The stone struck Goliath and sank deep into the middle of his forehead. He fell to the ground dead. David quickly ran and pulled out Goliath’s sword and cut off his head. After watching David kill Goliath, the Philistine army fled.

Black Robe Regiment

Where are the giant slayers of our generation? Prior to and during the American Revolution, New England ministers proclaimed the principles of liberty and condemned the English tyrants. Less than 15% of the American colonists supported the revolution against England. These patriotic ministers opposed the prevailing culture and were called the Black Robe Regiment by the British, because ministers wore black robes when they preached, (What is the Black Robe Regiment?) Their motto was “Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God.”

“The ministers of the American Revolution were, like their Puritan predecessors, bold and fearless in the cause of liberty. No class of men contributed more to carry forward the American Revolution and to achieve our independence than did the ministers. By their prayers, patriotic sermons, and services they rendered the highest assistance to the colonial government, to the Continental Army, and to the country.” B. F. Morris, Historian, 1864.

Only Five Percent

Incredibly, when the Covid scamdemic was initiated, only 5% of Christian pastors around the country opposed the tyrannical authorities, refused to buckle to political pressure and kept their churches open and fully occupied. While Walmart, Home Depot, Costco and liquor stores were deemed essential and wide open for business, the anti-Christian governing officials attacked the Christian church. Yet, only 5% of Christian pastors had the conviction and courage to oppose them and assert their congregations’ God-given, unalienable right to worship without government restrictions. These pastors should be praised for their bravery and their faithfulness to God.

Our liberties and rights are not conditional. If we allow the political officials to arbitrarily declare health disasters, and use them to impose restrictions by executive orders, then our rights and liberties will be destroyed and we will no longer be a free people.

Canadian Pastor, Artur Pawlowski, demonstrated his remarkable courage when his church in Calgary, Alberta, Canada was invaded by the police. Watch Pastor Pawlowski confront the police for interrupting the church service during Holy Week, and demand that the police leave. The police were shamed and left with their tails between their legs. Every pastor in America should follow the example and demonstrate the courage and resoluteness of Pastor Pawlowski. Hopefully, his example will stiffen the spines of others.

There Is Always A Money Trail

Now, many of the so-called “Christian” churches, their ministers and members have embraced the State as sovereign, tolerated the homosexual and transgender culture, the Communist inspired critical race theory, the woke cancel culture, and have believed in the Covid scamdemic and supported the experimental genetic modification injection.

Where are the mighty men of God?

My father told me that, “When someone’s actions or certain things seem contrary to what you would expect, there is always a money trail.”

Why have most Christian ministers and churches caved in to political pressure and adopted the changing cultural moral values? They lack the courage of young David and are overwhelmed with fearfulness, like King Saul and his army. They are worried that by standing up for our God-given liberties and freedoms, and challenging the political tyrants, they would lose their 501(c)3 charitable donation status. They have been counseled by their attorneys to be careful to follow the Covid guidelines, lest someone blame the church for causing them to contract the viral illness, leading to a lawsuit. They are scared of lawsuits from plaintiff attorneys on the Covid and other political issues. They are also worried that if they take strong, Biblically principled stands on any of these issues, then they will be intimidated by opposing political groups and the liberal media, and this will cause members to leave their church and their donations will decline.

Look in the Mirror

Christian pastors in America should look at themselves in the mirror every morning and say to themselves, “Be strong and courageous, and act. Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord my God is with you.” (1 Chronicles 28:20)

Christian pastors and Christians must only fear God.

“I love Thee, O Lord, my strength.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,

My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.” (Psalm 18:1-3)

Christian Men Must Take Leadership

Christian men, you can’t wait for your pastors to lead. You must rise up, demonstrate leadership by boldly advancing Biblical truth in civil government and turn the tide of wickedness in our nation. You must demonstrate the courage of your Christian convictions and prove your mettle in battle.

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for Christian men to do nothing.

“God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, and love and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Be bold! Deus audecas iuvat. God favors the bold.

Committed to our success as we turn the tide of evil by advancing the cause of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom, I remain, as always,

Sincerely yours,
