Conservatives Need To Support Kevin Roberts By Jared Woodfill

With the retirement of Congressman Ted Poe, the voters of Texas’ 2 nd Congressional District are
understandably anxious about selecting a replacement. That is because Ted Poe is a known
quantity—an effective leader on, and defender of, conservative issues—and voters fear the
potential for something less in their next representative to the US House. Voters understand that
if they want to continue with the type of results on conservative issues that they have come to
expect under the leadership of Ted Poe, that they must elect someone most like Ted
Poe—someone who has a record of experience, to avoid any surprises associated with an
unknown quantity. Poe himself was not an unknown quantity when he was elected 14 years ago.
Voters were not asked to take a leap of faith that Poe would be a leader. They were not asked to
take a leap of faith that he was conservative. Voters were not asked to take a leap of faith that he
was effective. He had already proven himself in the public arena as both a prosecutor and a
judge. He was experienced. He was conservative. And he was a leader. Ted Poe did not go to
Congress to follow orders. He went to lead and lead he did. Those facts were not in dispute,
because there was a public record.

In the race to succeed Congressman Ted Poe, State Representative Kevin Roberts is most like
Poe in this regard. Kevin Roberts, as a state representative, has a proven record of experience as
a conservative and effective leader on the issues that are important to us as conservatives. Kevin
Roberts is the candidate best suited to continue leading on those issues and to ensure that the 2 nd
District remains conservative. Kevin Roberts is the only candidate in the runoff election with a
record that shows exactly what he will do as a member of the US House of Representatives.

Some freshman legislators leave no marks on the establishments into which they are inaugurated.
Not so with Kevin Roberts. Roberts was a leader from day one, thanks to an intimate familiarity
with the issues as well as decades of private sector management experience. Roberts hit the
ground running as a leader, just like Poe. And like Poe, Roberts went to Austin to lead, not
follow. He led on issues like reducing government regulation when Gov. Abbott signed his bill to
remove regulations thereby limiting government, passed a crackdown on Sanctuary Cities to
protect our families, passed more funding for border security and voted to balance the state
budget with no new taxes. Roberts also led on flood control—even before Hurricane
Harvey—when he passed a resolution that called on Congress to fund a gulf coast storm barrier.
Roberts led on flood control before most politicians even recognized there was an issue. That’s
the kind of proactive, forward thinking leadership that conservatives in the 2 nd District deserve.

Conservatives deserve a leader because the conservative agenda is too important to leave to
chance. Every day, the liberals formulate new attacks on conservative values—they work
relentlessly to weaken the sanctity of life, to infringe on our Constitutional protections, including
the right to keep and bear arms, and they chip away at the moral foundation of our great nation,
attempting to force their immoral worldview on all of us in the name of correctness and
tolerance. The liberals believe in the power and wisdom of government and mock those of us
who disagree and place our faith in a higher power. Kevin Roberts has proven his commitment
to these values with not only his words, but also his action while in the Texas Legislature. He has stood for the sanctity of life and family values. That’s why he was named a Faith and Family
Champion by Texas Values.

Kevin Roberts supports the right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment and
worked to limit the size and scope of government. He is also the only candidate in the race who
opposes tax increases and put his name on the line by signing a taxpayer protection pledge.
Kevin Roberts has already demonstrated that he understands the importance of flood mitigation
and has the action to back up that belief.

Conservatives desperately need a leader representing us in the 2 nd Congressional District. The
conservative agenda is just too important to leave to chance. It won’t be left to chance with
Kevin Roberts leading the way. Kevin Roberts is the only candidate in this race with a record of
achievement, not words, on our conservative issues.

To elect a proven conservative leader, CRTX recommends a vote for Kevin Roberts in the May
22 Republican runoff election. Anyone who voted in the March 2018 Democrat Primary
Election is ineligible to vote in the May 22 Republican Runoff Election; however, all other voters
registered by April 23rd are welcome to participate. Early voting runs May 14-18. For complete
