Living in the Fear of the Lord

Proverbs 8:31

“The fear of the LORD is to hate evil, pride, arrogance and the evil way, and the perverted mouth. These things I hate.”

The fear of the Lord is demonstrated by obedience to God’s laws and standards. It requires you to conduct yourself in an upright manner, to behave yourself honorably in all your actions. God promises success to all those who fear Him.

Our good works do not earn us salvation. That has been accomplished by Jesus Christ through His substitutionary death on the cross, in payment for the guilt of our sins. Jesus rose victorious from the grave and offers salvation to anyone who will place their trust in Him as Savior.

“The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10)

Once you have accepted God’s forgiveness in Christ and are filled with the Holy Spirit, God gives you the power to live a Godly life.

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

No longer will you will desire to participate in the sinful acts which characterize fallen man.

“Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” (Galatians 5:19-24)

God calls you to lead a life that exemplifies His redemptive work in you.

“For by grace have you been saved, and that not of yourself, it is a gift of God, not as a result of works, so that no one should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ unto good works, that He beforehand ordained, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)

So then, walk in the fear of the LORD and claim God’s promises when you do.

“The reward of humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, honor and life.” (Proverbs 22:24)
