Mr. Speaker, you have become nothing more than hot air. You can peddle your nonsense all day but the truth is your version of HB4 does not require fingerprints or a background check of anyone detained. That means you don’t know who you are sending back to the port of entry.
If someone is a terrorist or a serious felon, they’ll be more than happy to take you up on your offer of avoiding arrest and hitching a ride back to the port of entry rather than getting fingerprinted or having a background check run on them. Your bill creates a revolving door so people can come back any time they want using a different name because there’s no record of who you sent back.
Don’t worry, we fixed HB4 to require anyone detained to be identified by fingerprints and background checked. If you agree to concur, we’ll send you the bill. If you insist on the dangerous policy of not properly identifying illegal border crossers before sending them back, you’re putting the lives of Texans and Americans at great risk. You might be allowing a terrorist or a felon to get away. The Texas Senate is not going to let that happen.
As far as your border wall bill, you left out security funding for Colony Ridge. Just pass the Senate bill.
The Senate has been the leader on border security legislation long before you arrived in the House. I don’t pay attention to you anymore and neither does anyone else. You’ve become the teacher character from the “Peanuts” series. When you talk, all we hear is, “Wah wah woh wah wah.”
You’ve become a Speaker who can impeach someone faster than it takes to smoke a brisket, but you can’t pass a big teacher pay raise bill or a school choice bill in 10 months. No one takes you seriously anymore.

Even The Wall Street Journal took sides, erroneously predicting Paxton’s demise (in an intemperate column by Karl Rove titled “The End Is Near for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton”). Paxton’s resounding acquittal of all 16 articles of impeachment by the Texas Senate in September, following a costly nine-day trial presided over by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, after just eight hours of deliberation, only exacerbated the intra-party feud that began in 2014 when Paxton — a Tea Party favorite — disrupted the AG race by defeating an establishment rival endorsed by George W. Bush.
