Almost 80% of Texas GOP Voters Support Privacy Act: Time for Republicans to Act!

Our friends at Texas Values Action recently released a survey that prove what most folks consider to be common sense-men should not be allowed women’s bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms.  The results of the survey are consistent with what we have seen in the Texas Senate which overwhelmingly supported this position, voting 21-10 to pass SB 3, legislation that keeps biological males, including registered sex offenders, out of women’s bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms.  Additionally, a majority of Republican House members have co-authored HB 46, the House version of SB 3, Texas Privacy Act.

The Texas Values’ survey found that 78.9 percent of those surveyed back a bill to prevent local governments from allowing men into little girls’ showers, restrooms, and changing areas. (The survey was conducted Aug. 7-8 among 1,519 recent and recurring Texas Republican primary voters.) The survey further found an even higher percentage, 84.7 percent, believed that boys who claim they are girls should be not allowed to use girls’ intimate facilities in public schools. Furthermore, the survey found that support for the privacy legislation among Texas Republicans will be a major issue in future voting decisions. About 79 percent indicated they would not vote to re-elect a Legislator that supports allowing men in women’s intimate facilities, and 64.5 percent responded privacy is an important issue in determining their ballot decisions.  This should send a clear message to Republican House members who are all up for election in 2018.  Conservative Republicans of Texas is actively recruiting primary opponents for Republicans who believe it is ok for men to enter women’s bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms under the protection of state law.

As the first Special Session winds down, we are calling on Governor Abbott to hold liberal, Republican, Texas House Speaker Joe Straus’ feet to the fire and call a second Special Session if the House fails to vote on the Texas Privacy Act.  It time to stand up, hold our elected officials accountable, and fight the good fight!
