The Forgotten George Washington Bible

The Forgotten George Washington Bible

This Self-Interpreting Bible by Rev. John Brown of Scotland was the Bible that George Washington received in the 1780s, and which he used as his study Bible.

In 1792, George Washington was one of the initial subscribers, along with many of our nation’s founding fathers, to the first edition of this Bible printed in America. It was disseminated throughout the country and used as a study Bible by the clergy as well as Christian believers. George Washington, who read and studied the Bible faithfully, believed that the preservation of liberty and freedom was found by reading the Bible and practicing its teachings.

This facsimile of George Washington’s Bible is the first to be printed in over 150 years. The prologue to this Bible written by historian Dale Mason documents the influence that Rev. John Brown’s Self-Interpreting Bible had on George Washington. The Bible itself contains over 200,000 cross references and with introductory notes before each book of the Bible, and devotionals after each of the 1,189 chapters in the Bible.

The Forgotten George Washington Bible is a treasure trove and would make a great gift to family members and friends for this Christmas Season.

I do solemnly declare that, with God’s help, I will be a Proverbs 28:1 Christian Patriot, ‘The righteous are as bold as a lion.’ I renounce Satan and all his works. I pledge my faith and allegiance to Jesus Christ our King. I will courageously protect our God-given, unalienable freedoms and rights. I will defend the Constitution of the United States, which was written to guarantee these freedoms and rights, against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. To this end, with a firm reliance upon the protection of God’s Divine Providence, I do pledge to my fellow Patriots, my Life, my Fortune, and my sacred Honor.”
