Chief of Staff, Gen. Kelly, says that Sessions Will Stay Atty. General

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly was appointed to his position on Friday, and though he wasn’t officially sworn in to the job until Monday, it appears he wasted no time in getting down to the business of managing the president’s staff and cabinet.

According to the Associated Press, citing two unnamed Trump administration officials, Kelly spent some time Saturday speaking by phone with Attorney General Jeff Sessions to assure him that he was in no danger of losing his position at the head of the Justice Department.

Kelly allegedly informed Sessions that although Trump was still a bit perturbed by his recusal over the Russia matter, he nevertheless had no plans to fire him, nor did he wish for Sessions to resign his position.

In fact, Kelly purportedly went on to tell Sessions that the president was supportive of the work he had been doing thus far and hoped that he would continue the successful job he had been doing.

Indeed, Sessions has begun the process of cracking down on sanctuary cities harboring criminal illegal immigrants while fighting drug cartels and violent gangs like MS-13, not to mention allegedly beginning quiet investigation of likely illicit leaks of national security information from the intelligence community.

The reassuring call came just days after Trump had let loose with several tweets that were critical of Sessions, followed by ambiguous comments to the media that left some wondering how secure the attorney general really was in his role.

As recently as last week, Trump had replied, “Time will tell, time will tell,” when asked if Sessions would remain in his position in the administration.

Asked Monday about Trump’s thoughts on Sessions, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters that “the president has 100 percent confidence in all members of his Cabinet” and that nobody was going anywhere anytime soon.

Fueled largely by unauthorized leaks and media conflation and exaggeration stemming from those leaks, there has been an air of uncontrolled chaos surrounding the White House.

Retired Marine Gen. John Kelly was brought in to put an end to that chaos and help present a unified front in the White House, and it appears that he is doing exactly that.
