Fox News’ Tucker Carlson ripped the national media to shreds while condemning the Obama era White House for wrongfully spying on American citizens for political purposes.
Carlson argued that while media continues to focus in on some phantom collusion between President Trump and the Russian government, something for which they have NO PROOF, they are actively ignoring the real scandal unfolding before their eyes. Susan Rice, one of President Obama’s closest advisors, has been caught wrongfully unmasking members of the Trump campaign and transition teams for what seem to be nakedly political purposes. How do we know she did it for political purposes? Many of the reports now being produced show that the data that Rice was collecting had nothing to do with Russia or other national security issues, meaning that she unmasked the names of members of the Trump team without cause.
This fact is what Carlson finds most disturbing because it means that civil libertarians were right all along – there really is NOTHING we can do to stop the government from spying on us.
“Let’s drop the silly euphemisms. Monitoring the communications of your political opponents, and then trampling measures designed to protect their identities, isn’t ‘incidental collection’ and it isn’t regular above-the-board behavior, it is spying. IT probably wasn’t illegal, in fact, U.S. law gives tremendous latitude to intelligence agencies to surveil Americans, as well as to the White House where officials there claim they need to see this information and pass it along to other parts of government. That’s supposed to reassure all of us, but it shouldn’t because our laws currently provide no protection for U.S. citizens from being spied upon for political reasons by their own government. And worse, it actually happens, it just happened. That is the scandal here.“
Carlson then transitioned into a conversation with former Obama advisor David Tafuri, a conversation that grew quite heated when Tafuri argued that the Russia story was the real issue here. Carlson pressed, as he has done time and again with liberals and journalists, for Tafuri to present ANY EVIDENCE that there was collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. Or, for that matter, for Tafuri to present any evidence that Russia had any impact on the recent election. Of course, Tafuri could provide none, nor has any liberal politician or liberal member of the media been able to show a tangible connection between Russia and recent events.
“I want one person to bring one piece of evidence that Russia hacked the election. Where are the facts?” Carlson asked his Tafuri. When Tafuri refused to offer evidence but did continue to push the Russia narrative, Carlson again asked “What is the actual evidence that Russia hacked the election? Why can’t anyone share the underlying proof?”
Tafuri’s continued reluctance to offer any evidence (because there isn’t any) visibly frustrated Carlson. “I care enough to ask real questions because I have learned in 30 years here don’t take it on faith, get the facts. And I am waiting for a single fact, just one, from any of these fabled 17 intelligence agencies. How about Coast Guard intelligence? They’re one of the agencies you’re referring to. Maybe they can come on this show and give me just on scintilla of evidence that the Russian government, not some Russians but the Russian government, Vladimir Putin, broke into John Podesta’s emails with the purpose of making Donald Trump president,” Carlson demanded.
It was a pretty intense segment but Carlson raises some important points – hopefully, we’ll soon get some answers.
