Throughout the Bible, great things happen when men and women are bold and courageous. In Joshua 1:9, the Lord commanded Joshua to be bold and courageous before He led the children of Israel out of the wilderness and into the Promised Land. At CRTXNews our guiding scripture is Proverbs 28:1, “The righteous are as bold as a Lion.” If we are going to take back our country, we are going to have to be as courageous as Joshua and as bold as a Lion! We recently saw a great example of a Texas State Representative who acted as bold as a lion. Texas state representative Tony Tinderholt of Arlington recently introduced a bill that would make abortion illegal in Texas, the “Abolition of Abortion in Texas Act.” (House Bill No. 948) The bill would amend the Texas Family Code section 151.002(a) to state, “[A] living human child, from the moment of fertilization upon the fusion of a human spermatozoon with a human ovum, is entitled to the same rights, power, and privileges as are secured or granted by the laws of this state to any other human child.” If signed into law, abortion would be outlawed in the state of Texas, and tens of thousands of unborn children would be saved. Representative Tinderholt recently told one periodical that he’s “a firm believer that God creates children in his own image, regardless of how that child is brought into the world, it’s created in his image, and how can someone want to destroy that?” It is great to see an elected official running to his faith instead of running from it. It is encouraging to see one who is unafraid to take on the left’s sacred cow, abortion. In fact, since introducing the bill Rep. Tinderholt has received numerous death threats and has been placed under Texas Department of Public Safety protection.
Rep. Tinderholt’s bill is consistent with the Republican Party of Texas Platform which states, “Abolish Abortion- We call upon the Texas Legislature to enact legislation stopping the murder of unborn children; and to ignore and refuse to enforce any and all federal statutes, regulations, executive orders, and court rulings, which would deprive an unborn of the right to life.” (Republican Party of Texas 2016 Platform p 11)
Some argue that the bill will ultimately be held unconstitutional due to the United States Supreme Court’s 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade. However, if we are ever going to overturn Roe, we need a case to be brought through the trial and appellate courts for the United States Supreme Court to rule on. Given the changing membership of the court over the next few years under President Trump, and the time it takes a case to travel up the appellate ladder, now is the right time to pass such a bill. Texas would send a message to the rest of the country that enough is enough-we will no longer allow a generation of young people to be wiped out in their mother’s womb. By passing Tinderholt’s bill, we would bring attention to the tragedy of abortion, energize our pro-life base, and potentially see Roe v. Wade overturned. We cannot make decisions on legislation based on what a future United States Supreme Court may or may not do with respect to the legislation. If we had adopted this strategy in the past, Plessy v. Ferguson (separate but equal) would still be the law of the land, and Brown v. Board of Education which declared laws establishing separate public schools for black and white student to be unconstitutional, would have never reached the United States Supreme Court. Let’s join Representative Tinderholt and be bold and courageous.
