Central Texas Citizens for Life
Last Saturday’s huge Rally to Abolish the Killing of Unborn Babies in Texas, held in Austin, initiated the abolition movement efforts in the Texas Legislature. Rep. Tony Tinderholt’s HB 948, the “Abolition of Abortion in Texas” bill, is the bill for which the Pro-Life movement and its leaders voiced their overwhelming support.
“There’s never been a better time to pursue the abolition of abortion than right now!” exclaimed Rep. Tony Tinderholt, Arlington, the bill’s sponsor, unflinchingly. “We only have a short time on this earth. Let’s not waste one moment debating the timing of saving the unborn.”
One of the bill’s co-sponsors, Rep. Briscoe Cain, Deer Park, was unequivocal: “Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision of 1973 that imposed the evil of abortion upon our nation and state began here in Texas, and it’s time that Roe ends here! On this subject there can be no moderation… We will not stop till every baby gets a chance to have its first breath.”
“Here’s my message to my fellow legislators,” charged Rep. Jonathan Stickland, Bedford. “You don’t get to look your constituents in the face and say that you are ‘pro-life’ if you do not back this bill! You do not get to admit that you are a Christian, conservative, pro-life champion unless you sign on to this bill! You do not get to go home and look at your kids and your wife and your friends and your Sunday School class, and tell them you did everything that you could, if you don’t sign on to this bill, House Bill 948! And more importantly than all of that stuff, is you do not get to stand before the Lord God Almighty and hear that you did everything you could if you did not stand up and say that it’s time to abolish abortion in Texas, right now!”
Tinderholt asked everyone to get out their cell phones, and proceeded to give them the office number of Rep. Byron Cook, Corsicana, who chairs the State Affairs committee to which the bill has been assigned. All were encouraged to call Chairman Cook beginning Monday and to urge him to give HB 948 a hearing in this committee.
Here is Chairman Cook’s number: (512) 463-0730. Let’s flood the phone lines, kindly and respectfully, as Tinderholt urged. For a complete list of all representatives on this committee, who also need our calls of support for a hearing of this bill, please go to www.abolishabortiontx.com.
Was the rally a spark to ignite a great flame of fervent action; or will it prove to have been a flickering ember on the pit of our passivity towards evil in our times? Fellow Texans, what say you?
