Former President Barack Obama Coasted through his lame duck presidency with seemingly only one major issue to address: Transgendered Americans.
It was bizarre, and a little concerning, but it was also transparent. The former President, sensing that his progressive heir to the throne, Hillary Clinton, was going to face a great deal of justified criticisms in her attempt to win the White House, needed to make a last ditch effort to shore up fringe liberal voters for the democratic party. Having already reached out to other factions of the every-expanding LGBTQ community, Barack Obama specifically took up the cause of the transgendered Americans, attempting to bestow upon this infinitely small percentage of leftist Americans a bevy of rights that they weren’t even clamoring for.
What Obama did was create a few foolish decrees regarding how society would be forced to cope with transgendered citizens, not the least of which was a threat to pull funding from public education institutions should they not open up their women’s bathrooms and women’s locker rooms to men who “identify” as female. Obama also opened the door for transgendered Americans to serve in the military, something that the Trump administration is postponing this week.
“The Secretary of Defense has frozen a decision by former President Barack Obama to recruit transgender soldiers this year, and a new poll shows the planned recruitment freeze is very popular.
“Two of every three swing voters say the Pentagon should postpone plans to accept “transgender” people who are trying to live as members of the opposite sex, according to the new poll by Rasmussen Reports.
“Defense Secretary James Mattis explained his July 30 decision to delay Obama’s plan for six months, just before it was to begin operating:
“‘Since becoming the Secretary of Defense, I have emphasized that the Department of Defense must measure each policy decision against one critical standard: will the decision affect the readiness and lethality of the force? Put another way, how will the decision affect the ability of America’s military to defend the nation? It is against this standard that I provide the following guidance on the way forward in accessing transgender individuals into the military Services.’
“The six-month delay will encourage and help opponents lobby against Obama’s pro-transgender policy.”
While Obama’s transgender stunt has been openly identified as a stunt to garner votes for the democrats, many will still take offense to the Pentagon’s delay.
In reality, all major changes within our military should be fully vetted before a rush to implement occurs. Obama’s decision, should it eventually become reality, was certainly not ready for a rollout this year at all, and, given the delicate and emotional nature of the subject matter, may not be fully safe for implementation for several years or more.
